Eleven months ago these two produced the strangest tie of the 2025 Libertadores. LDU won the semi-final first leg 3-0 in Quito, then lost 4-0 in São Paulo and watched Palmeiras walk into the final. Both clubs have rebuilt since. LDU topped their group with 12 points from six matches (W4 D0 L2); Palmeiras finished second in theirs with 11 from six (W3 D2 L1) and a goal difference of five.

The route in was the same shape for both. Palmeiras drew 1-1 at home with Cerro Porteño and won 1-0 in Asunción. LDU drew 1-1 in Brazil and 0-0 at home with Mirassol before going through on penalties. Four knockout matches between them, five goals, three draws.
